Walking and hiking is accessible to everyone and with social media platforms like Instagram showcasing the most beautiful images, there has never been better motivation to adventure out into the mountains or countryside.

But what about safety? are you hill ready? what kit do you carry as standard to ensure your safety and also the safety of others who may need to come out to help you. Even the most experienced individual can have the odd, slip, trip or fall, but its having the right equipment and experience that can make all the difference.

As a quick guide, answer the following questions.

Are you competent with a map?

Can you use a compass with a map?

Do you understand What 3 Words?

Did you know that Mountain Rescue are a voluntary organisation?

Are you first aid trained and do you carry a first aid kit on your walks?

Do you carry additional warm clothing in your pack?

If you answered NO to any of the questions, you may want to look into increasing your skills and knowledge.
