Comments: Reviewed 21 September 2016 Amazing day sailing!! We took a three hour sailing class on Coniston Water with Dave Firth, who was incredible.

Neither myself or my boyfriend had ever done any sailing before but felt completely at ease instantly with Dave

We arrived to the Lake at a 1pm where we met him, and he quickly guided us through a couple of basic principles around wind direction and how we could use this to make the boat move. Brief but concise as to maximise the time on the water actually learning by doing, which was just what we wanted - to learn to sail.

Brilliant 3 hours course, learning the parts of the boat (a wayfarer), to look at the sails to judge the direction we could go in, how to read the water and judge the wind changes, and sail both into and downwind, turning and useful other tricks to get the most out of the conditions available. Even with a light wind we got loads out of the afternoon.

We did the majority of the course with the instructor, but then returned back to the Jetty to go solo, with Dave in a motorised boat observing us - just in case we sank.
Dave made loads of photos and videos of us and really made the afternoon , very funny and charismatic instructor.

Kety was also brilliant as she organized us a place to stay really close by on the day, with just a phone call whilst we were staying. So we ended up after an incredible day relaxing by a fire with a tee pee to sleep in overnight in the near by youth hostel.

Comments: Reviewed 21 September 2016 Gorge walking / canyoning We organised this activity at relatively late notice - just one week before we wanted to do it - but the whole process was seamless. Kety was very prompt with her replies to emails and this was one of the key reasons for us choosing adventure21 as any questions were answered clearly and quickly.

On the day itself we met Dave our instructor at Coniston Lakeside and went from there.
The afternoon was fantastic fun and this was in a large part made by Dave's leadership. He made us feel safe and confident throughout whilst also having a good laugh. Some of the climbs and jumps were brilliant, and we all left the activity having had a brilliant afternoon.

We saw a few other groups over the weekend also, but in my opinion we were having the most fun!

All in all would thoroughly recommend adventure 21, and will certainly use them again if i am back in the area.

Right from the get go, Kety was fantastic at sorting out our booking. It was a big group of 18 of us and she made everything so easy. Including helping us find somewhere to stay in Coniston.

I along with my friends had an amazing time paintballing. Dave was an absolute blast. Such a top guy. He made the day not only safe but extremely fun. He even managed to make me forget about my severely hungover state!!

The layout of the paintballing site is fantastic. We had 3 great games which were challenging but fun. The most exercise that I've had in a long time.

I would definitely recommend them to anyone, whether it be a small group or a large one and I will definitely be looking into other activities that I can partake in.

Thanks for making it an awesome weekend guys!!

Comments: Reviewed 13 September 2016 Amazing Gorge Walking Experience I was told to go Gorge Walking by a local for my first visit with my husband to the lakes - and I was not disappointed!
Went with David up the waterfalls near Coniston for 3 hours of fun on a Sunday morning, and I cannot recommend this enough. David was a wonderful, hilarious guide who made sure we got the best out of the experience - including photographing all the embarrassing moments.
Suitable for all ages as long as you are genuinely happy to get very wet - there were young kids up to adults in our group. Note that you will also get cold, but by the end you don't care because jumping in the pools is so much fun. Remember to bring a swim suit, and potentially a long sleeved shirt to go over the wet suit. Also wear trainers that you are happy to get soaked.
Coniston itself is also a great location to go from as the Bluebird cafe, where you start / finish, is superbly located on this beautiful lake and very well equipped with lunch options - including well deserved giant hot chocolates!

For a massive family get together in the Lakes, what better than the chance to shoot each other with paint from close range (we started with a minimum of 26.5m away...and got closer and closer as the day went on.) Dave and Mike (Arnie lookalike..) did their best to keep spirits up on a damp day. Highlights were the flag event, people falling over holly bushes (we await the video!) and barriers that fell over.

Thanks to all involved for a great afternoon.

Not only did i get very quick responses ( enquired sunday morning, booked it packed it etc by Tuesday) but Dave the instructor was very good. Comments: Have you seen the Velcro......? Booked Adventure 21 for the family - mum, dad and one teenager (complete with make-up!?) and two 9 year old boys for day two of the school holidays - and to be honest we now have to find something that will match this adventure for another six weeks!
A little confusion at the start as we had booked the whole day for rock climbling and gorge scrambling - and thinking it was a bit weird putting on a wet suit for climbing up a rock face! ( it was a booking mistake on Dave's part and to be honest after the gorge scrambling I couldn't feel my feet so the prospect of a warm cafe with pie and chips seemed more appealing than trying to scale a rock face!)
Dave, Jeff or Trevor (he answers to anything) was very welcoming from the start and together with a northern accent put us right at ease, especially with his magic wet suits size assessments without being rude!
After suiting up, its a short walk (depending on your opinion) to the start of the adventure where its a sharp shock to your vascular system in the cold water!
The adrenaline and adventure is right from the start - and there's plenty of surprises along the way - from the waterfall to the 'under water cave' to the really bad dad jokes.
Dave had lots of time for the boys and was very patient with them during the more difficult activities and didn't seem to be in a rush despite having another booking in the afternoon.
There was a second group not far behind us with a different guide who seemed to be in a hurry and must have been trying to get to the top before the pub closes or something as they seemed to be doing much less than us and looked like a basic walk up the stream rather than enjoying the natural pools and waterfalls.
In summary Dave made the day for us and it is something that the boys will be talking about for time to come (I know the grandparents today got a blow by blow account!) and I for one would highly recommend Dave but be aware that you need to have a funny gene installed to laugh along to the really bad puns and jokes! (Velcro by the way is a "real rip-off!)
Thank you for a great morning!

Comments: Leg-ends Where to start.....me and my friend were heading to the lakes and wanted something a bit different to the norm and gorge scrambling looked perfect.

We booked on and met Action Man Dave at the rendezvous point. Wet suited up (you only need swimwear, trainers and socks) and headed to the river about a 15 minute walk into Coniston.

We started by walking up the river and traversing some simple obstacles until we were met by a small waterfall which Dave thought would be hilarious to make us sit underneath it. Cheers Dave. We then continued up river where the terrain became more challenging but a lot more fun including climbing up rock faces and jumping off 9 metre falls into plunge pools.

It was an amazing day out and definitely recommend it to any thrill seekers or anyone looking for something different to do.

Oh and nearly forgot the highlight of the day....Daves dad jokes. Here's one to watch out for.

Comments: Gorge walking and abseiling in Coniston A family of city folk headed for some gorge walking whilst thunder and lightening rolled over the Lake District. Needless to say we were slightly apprehensive! However our instructor and guide Dave put us all at rest showing us the local markers that would indicate if water levels would be an issue. After getting kitted up it was a short walk to the gorge. Dave was great with the kids, putting everybody at ease whilst having a laugh. The course was excellent, we all loved it, it was definitely our favourite activity of the week. There were a few challenges, such as plunge pools to jump into, or tree trunks to clamber under, but under Dave's guidance we all felt safe and more than happy to take on the challenges.

The following day we went abseiling, with Dave as our instructor again. With Dave's knowledge and experitise we felt completely safe and had great fun abseiling down the cliff face whilst taking into the beautiful scenery and a few stories and laughs from Dave.

We would definitely recommend using Adventure 21, as their booking process was so easy to use, and the instructors knowledge, experience and sense of fun and adventure are excellent! We'll definitely be back!!

Dave Firth is a fantastic host and guide, he absolutely made our day. We booked to do the kayaking (which was a water based orienteering exercise in teams of 4) and then we did the canyoning (which was basically climbing up waterfalls and jumping off them). We were a little bit late arriving (nursing hangovers), but Dave was undeterred and was super accommodating when we arrived and really welcoming to us all.

Dave is clearly passionate abut what he does and this was reflected in the fun yet relaxing way in which he ran the day. I never stopped laughing all day (even when I was the butt of the jokes). I would absolutely endorse anyone who is looking for a great day out as a group, family or as part of a team building day to book with Dave and the team.

If you are looking for excellent value for money and endless amounts of fun then please book with Dave and the team at Adventure 21. There are loads of other things you can do too like mountain biking, canoeing etc.

We will definitely be back later in the year to do more activities. Thank you Dave for the top laugh and cheesy jokes.

When my boss sent me an email regarding a team building exercise which included 'bring a swimming costume and a towel' and prepared us for a 150 mile round trip i can't lie, my heart sank. I could not think of anything worse than parading around half naked in front of my work mates. But i need not have worried. It turned out to be one of the most memorable days not only of my working career, but of my whole life!! We set off from Blackpool armed only with a post code. Once we arrived it became clear this day was going to involve some sort of water activity. 'Not my idea of fun' i was thinking. This was, i thought, way out of my comfort zone. There were 20 of us in total. All feeling very apprehensive, even the sporty ones amongst us. Dave (from Chorley) and Chris arrived on the scene, our leaders for the day. They introduced themselves and put us at ease outlining what we would be doing. Building a raft, and sailing it on Lake Coniston! Racing it in fact. Dave was incredibly funny and added humour to the whole day. Adventure21 is a very professional organisation, apparent from the start. Dave ran through our task with us. Asking us to draw a raft that would be sea worthy using 6 wooden planks, 16 ropes and 4 barrels. Our group split into 4 teams. My team came up with a prototype and Dave gave it the thumbs up. We all got our heads together following instructions given earlier on how to tie ropes, how to ensure barrels were secure and basically how not to end up in the lake! Once our raft was finished we went to changing rooms to change into our swimwear and .....wet suits and helmets! I thought 'will they have my size' 'will i get it on' (and more importantly will i be able to get it off!). Everything was positive and i felt quite comfy in my new outfit :-) it wasn't even the biggest on the rail
(She said smugly) complete with accessories (life jacket on the top so also felt very safe). 4 teams competed to get from A to B on the very large lake! I don't think i have ever felt as competitive in my life. If I closed my eyes I could have even been in the Oxford/Cambridge Boat race shouting 'stroke....stroke' it felt that good. Swapping our oars from one side to another to steer our raft in the right direction, spurring each other on to go faster and to get into a certain rhythm so we got there quicker. (Splashing the odd rival on other rafts here and there as and when required). It was hilarious. The water was about 17 degrees and felt surprisingly warm and wasn't deep at all (members of the opposite team found out....not our team I'm proud to state). We had to get back to the starting point and take the raft apart again, tie all ropes together and place them on barrel to finish. My team came 3rd. But all 4 teams felt so very proud of themselves and their amazing achievements. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I would be capable of such a feat. My manager had prepared individual award certificates as well as 4 special awards which I am proud to say I received the one for bravery we all got changed into our clothes and walked up the road to a lovely pub for a bit of light refreshment and a bite to eat. We discussed the day ....and the laughs just kept coming. I highly recommend this adventure. If you are considering it JUST DO IT. Its a...maz....ing.

A fantastic introduction to climbing for me and my 8 year old son. Dave, our teacher, was brilliant - clearly knowledgeable and experienced, warm and funny. 3 hours flew by.
We were expecting quite a basic session as we are both beginners, but with Dave's guidance we came away feeling as though we had done some 'proper' climbing, with some dedicated teaching and all in a stunningly beautiful place. I couldn't recommend this highly enough. Great value for money too.

I called Kety just before the bank holiday weekend for a last-minute canyoning session for two people. Luckily for us, Dave was able to squeeze us in for a 3-hour session on Church Beck, which runs down the Coppermines Valley above the village of Coniston. Dave has a lockup full of kit next to the lake and a separate unit for private changing. During a 15-minute walk up to the gorge Dave made us feel at ease, and once we started the activity he made it fun but with a real sense of security. He encouraged Camila to step outside her comfort zone, which meant that she got the most out of the activity. He was extremely patient at the big jump, which allowed her to build her confidence. We had a fantastic start to our weekend getaway. Dave took loads of photos and shared them very quickly to his Facebook group - which made the weekend even more memorable. Dave was the consummate professional throughout, and I would happily recommend him for both private instruction and group activities.

Absolutely brilliant day out with our ever patient instructor Paul. We over estimated our fitness somewhat so spent most the time pushing mountain bikes up hills! When the time came to zoom back down again we were overcome with such excitement we all decided to go in different directions... None of which the one we should have! Paul safely reunited us all and brought us back safe with many a smile to share and story to tell.

Paul then had the treat of taking us all gorge scrambling which provided less opportunity to get lost (follow the river) and despite being uphill (again) was bloomin marvellous. Who'd of thought you could have such fun marching up a freezing cold river whilst (badly) shrieking the great escape theme tune.

Top work! Will be visiting again (after some exercise)

Went as a group of 10 girls, was a fun day would definitely recommend, although take plenty of layers! Dave was great, and didn't even shout at us when we swore at each other (sorry about that) the 600 bullets were pretty much enough for most of us ( there were a couple trigger-happy gal pals) . The area was good, lots of high and lower ground for team games. Think it brought out the competitive side in us -would do it again !

Communication with the organisers was 1st class from start to finish. Set on the outskirts of Coniston in the lake district the venue is ideal for such an event, very good scenery. Our instructor Dave was excellent on the day from start to finish, he first guided us through a safety briefing and instructions on how to use all equipment provided. Then it was on to shooting each other for fun. Lots of games played and lots of people being shot! Dave was always on hand to look after you and make sure everyone is safe as well as making sure everyone is enjoying themselves. Dave even took some photos of the day so we could take some memories away with us. There is no one shot and your out of the game policy, doesn't matter how many times you are shot, you are in the game for the duration. Makes it better for everyone! Can highly recommend if you are thinking of using adventure 21 for your paintballing event. Lots of fun and very relaxed too!! Visited April 2016

The staff were very helpful (Kety gets a special mention here) and the prices very competitive. We booked paintballing for ten people and had a fabulous time. Dave, the instructor, was first class. Friendly, funny (amazing jokes), knowledgeable and very firm on safety... a reassuring mix. The venue was picturesque (being in Cumbria), 50 mins from J36 of the M6 and not as difficult to find as you might expect. The emphasis was on fun over technical ability and there were none of those silly sudden death rules... we had a wail of a time, got shot a lot and Dave took loads of photo's and video to save us the bother and the risk of damaging phones. I cannot fault any aspect of the experience, even the pain of being shot... yes, it hurts a lot! Book with confidence and have fun.

The communication I had when enquiring, booking and then sorting out the finer details with Adventure21 was first rate with fast and informative responses at every step. On the day from the start instructors Dave and Pete approach the it with humour and charisma but quickly switched to serious safety protocol at the appropriate points. Abseiling in the morning was good fun and even the lads with a fear of heights were supported and subtly encouraged so they went well out of their comfort zone with no drama. After a few decents we all got well into it. After a lunch break we got kitted out for the gorge scramble. This was an amazing session. Great combination of wading up the river and scrambling up waterfalls and finishing with some increasingly challenging (or should I say ******* scary) jumps off waterfalls and ledges. plenty of encouragement but no pressure from Dave and Pete to jump. Over all the day was exceptionally well organised with knowledgeable, enthusiastic and fun instructors. The lads loved it and we were all buzzing after. I organised a paintballing party for my best friend's stag do, with Adventure 21, and it was everything it said on the tin and a lot more. Most places will charge you through the nose for paintballs, be horrifically strict and rigid with games, and stick you in a group with people you will most likely dislike. Adventure 21 sell paintballs at low prices, they create order within disorder by having one real rule (keep the mask on) and "rules" that are up to you, and it's just your group that play together, for maximum fun and no chance of idiots around (unless they're in your group, then you only have yourself to blame). The scenarios are great and the scenery you play in is stunning, but what really made the day were the "marshals" (Dave Firth was the main marshal's name). They really went the extra mile to make sure you had the best time. They didn't really act like marshals in the sense that they didn't boss you around and make you feel like a child; they like to bend the rules, and they'll even very cheekily shoot you every now and then if you've built a hearty rapport with them. They were enormous fun, laughs throughout, made you feel incredibly comfortable, and really took care of you. Testament to the extra mile - one of the party member's car broke down and dave offered and went immediately to pick him up in his 4x4. Incredibly kind. The games were hilarious, but fun and competitive, and the intro's let you settle into paintballing nicely, without it being a baptism of fire. Overall, every part of the session and the marshal's contribute was outstanding, and I would wholeheartedly recommend them to anyone. Visited August 2015

It was really very good fun, George was a great laugh and a really good instructor. The mountain biking trail was just right for our group, not too intense for those who hadn't done it before, but entertaining enough for the ones who had a bit of experience. Gorge scrambling was everything I hoped it to be, cold wet and exhilarating, I especially liked climbing up one of the large waterfalls. The instructors were excellent, relaxed in approach yet clearly focused on safety and demonstrating excellent experience and knowlege; they also had great banter. Comments: “A perfect school trip” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 2 July 2015 Could not have asked for a better day for a fun packed school trip. 26 students travelled from Bury and as soon as we arrived in Coniston it was none stop fun. Dave, Ketty, Zoe and Paul were great with motivating the students and making them laugh. For a school trip the safety of the students is top priority and it is clear that Adventure 21 have the same. Medical forms were checked and all medication was looked after by instructors, who also had first aid kits on hand. The students loved the activities, quoting one who said it was 'wicked'. They completed gorge scrambling and canoeing. The gorge scrambling was the favourite of the day; jumping from waterfalls into plunge pools, walking through white water and taking many group photos and selfies. The canoeing was also enjoyed. Team games and making pyramids out of canoes were a highlight. The view on Coniston Water is also breath taking. All of the equipment was included and what could have been hectic with 26 teenagers getting changed, was made to be nice and simple. A good collaboration between Adventure 21 and my school. As a school we are looking forward to visiting again next year and would 100% recommend it for other schools, organised groups or even families. I know some of my students want to visit again with their families. A big thank you to Adventure 21 Visited July 2015

Comments: “Stag weekend” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 27 April 2015 A group of 8 of us went to the Lakes last weekend where we spent a couple of days paint balling, abseiling and gorge walking/canyoning with Adventure 21...and what a brilliant, enjoyable time we had!
Dave & Paul who were our guides/instructors were great: we had such a good time but safety and guidance were not overlooked in the slightest. There was no pressure on anyone to do anything they didn't want to, only encouragement. The locations, especially for the abseiling and canyoning/gorge walking were ideal. I couldn't recommend Adventure 21 highly enough for anyone who wants a variety of activities in the Lakes with friendly, knowledgeable guides.

Adventure 21 took care of all three activities - Dave and his staff were excellent. We were immediately made to feel like our enjoyment was paramount but this was not at the cost of safety. Their professional and friendly approach truly enhanced each of the activities and for this they should be commended. We did archery and air rifle shooting and although i had shot an air rifle before it was the first time i had ever done archery. The level of instruction was such that even those we could barely shoot the arrow 6' at the beginning were hitting the target with fair regularity at the end. Dave and his team, George and Karl the 'Tache were fantastic from start to finish. To get a group of 20 hungover idiots into a freezing cold lake was no easy task, not only did they accomplish it they managed to do it with smiles on our faces. After a well earned brew and bacon butty we spent the afternoon canyoning. Dave and George led us to the
water which to say was cold doesn't even begin to describe it but we spent that much time laughing at them taking the mick out of their new friend Karl Pilkington/Pamela Anderson (the stag) that we didn't care how cold it was. It was a perfect mix of fun and terror whilst being expertly guided. Can't wait to come back and try the Eskdale gorge. Thank you. Visited April 2015

Saw the great reviews of Adventure 21 and Dave the instructor, and we weren't disappointed. From start to finish the day was extremely well run, we were greeted by Dave on arrival and he immediately got everyone into good spirits and set the tone for the rest of the day.Paintballing was certainly one of the best places I've experienced, with the natural sloping and craggy terrain providing a great backdrop to the games. Both Dave and Chris his assistant conveyed their experience and ran the games well: capture the flag, ambush alley being the highlights! Gorge walking was only a 5 minute drive away in Coniston. Considering there was snow around and the middle of winter, most of us weren't looking forward to the afternoon. However the enthusiasm and fun that Dave had for climbing up the gorge rubbed off on everyone, and it was a great experience! Instead of just climbing up without stopping, we stopped a few times to do group exercises- sitting back under a waterfall, jumping into pools and a trust exercise made it very funny to watch the other guys doing it, and distracted from the cold. In sum, the guys left the weekend still talking about how good the activities were, and that is testament to Dave and his team for running such a professional centre. Will definitely be back! I set him quite a challenge dealing with a group of children and adults aged 3 to 63 but Ranger Dave as one of the kids called him before he became just Dave Dave every 5 seconds, was up to it. Comments: “Fun boot camp!” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 28 January 2015 NEW If like me you're a bit of a wuss, have a bad back, can't swim, hate being wet, hate being cold & vertically challenged then a two day team build with work colleagues to trek mountains on a 5 mile orienteering, canoeing for two hours over consiston lake (Swallows & Amazons styles with oars), paint balling (ooowwwwwwwwwwww!) and then 'raft' building which you then race on the water if not sinking then freeeeeeeeeeeeezing in biting cold water filled trousers would sound like an idea straight from a Faustian boot camp. Well it was the toughest two days I've ever done but seriously Dave and his lovely 'son' Chris made it brilliant actually. In fact despite chucking my teddy out, sulking, crying and moaning solidly for two days it was brilliant. If you're thinking of booking this just do it. You won't regret it. Take a Staypuff marshmallow man padded suit with head if paintballing, waterproof heated onsie if going any where near the water and a Todd of rum if you're going orienteering.

Comments: “Paintball with the kids” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 5 October 2014 Did a paintball session as part of our annual dads and kids camping trip (kids aged between 8 and 11). Initial booking request was met with a quick response, and when we had to cut numbers last minute Dave was very accommodating and agreed to tailor the session to a smaller group.

We arrived on site to meet Dave, who entertained the kids from the off! After an introduction to a chicken and a few jokes we were ready to go! He made the kids (all but one were first timers) feel very at ease yet struck a perfect balance in highlighting the health and safety aspect in a firm but friendly manner. The dads had all done paintball several times and we all agreed that Dave was the best instructor/supervisor that any of us had had. Once the health and safety was done the kids had a few trial shots and we were off. The session was tailored to our participant numbers, with care taken to protect the kids whilst peppering the dads! Smoke bombs, ambush alley, getting through the gate, and the chicken, the kids loved it all.

The kids all said it was the highlight of the weekend. They are already asking to go again. Adventure21 were excellent, would highly recommend.

Dave and Sam were amazing and hugely contributed to our enjoyment of the weekend, and seemed to be as excited about the activities as we were. I particularly recommend the canyoning which was much talked about afterwards! Dave and Sam did an amazing job of keeping everyone energised and entertained. One of our party was very nervous about the canyoning having had an unpleasant experience when doing it abroad but but the instructors really helped him to overcome his reservations and by the end he was enjoying it as much as the rest of us. Another of our party had a pre-existing injury to his shoulder, the instructors did a great job of helping him out when necessary and were very switched on to safety. However, for the most part it was plain sailing - a really relaxed atmosphere and an energetic and thoroughly enjoyable day. It was impossible to fault Adventure21 and the cost of the activities was also extremely reasonable. I'd have no hesitation at all about booking with Adventure21 again, or recommending them. Dave from Adventure 21 headed our group on the stag and really made us feel welcome from the very start, giving 100% throughout the weekend. Dave is a great laugh, gets really involved and builds a really good connection with everyone in the group. Unfortunately, due to terrible weather the day was cancelled. But we were soon booked onto another group day to do the same activity with no hassle at all, excellent customer service!! We were also able to join onto a full day, which was abseiling in the morning and then canyoning (gyhll scrambling) in the afternoon. We were put at ease straight away with the help of Harvey and Chris, they were brilliant all day and were fully able to enjoy the experience. The whole day from start to finish was awesome and we cant wait to book again for another day out!! Highly recommend to anyone who likes to have fun and who aren't afraid of a bit of cold water!!

We had great fun building rafts in the morning and then gorge scrambling. Dave was excellent with the lads with his humour and finding the right level of communication. He had the lads working together to solve problems and getting them to trust each other. The plunge pools were great (although a bit high for me) and the character of the lads really shone through. I would recommend this for any team as a team building event. We will most defiantly be returning next year. Thanks for a great day. Visited August 2014

Equipment was plentiful and instructors (Dave and Chris) were brilliant. There were some groups from other companies and the clothing etc did not seem the same quality. We also seemed to spend more time enjoying the gorge. The age range of our group varied but the walk was well paced for all. The jumps were great fun, if anyone is worried there is no pressure to do them. The instructors seem genuinely pleased when you overcome any fears!! The gorge is kept spotlessly clean and is in a great location. I think to sum it up we all wished we had booked a full day excursion! Visited July 2014

Comments: “What a day!” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 13 July 2014 On behalf of everyone at 1st Dundonald and Irvine Boys' Brigade, we would just like to thank Dave & Chris for a truly fantastic day of gorge scrambling & raft building/open canoeing. Dave was excellent with the kids, displaying a great sense of humour and encouraging the kids to try things that was outwith of their comfort zone but not pushing them too much that they felt humiliated. (the less said about me the better). Still disagree with the "winner" of the raft building but i'm not a sore loser and will gracefully accept defeat (we all know who the real winner actually was). I would 100% recommend Adventure 21 for anyone who is looking to try these types of activities. We all had a ball, safety was never forgotten and the experience was unforgettable.

Thanks Again (don't forget your keys Dave)

Comments: “Invigorating and entertaining” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 15 June 2014 I did a full day's gorge walking/canyoning and then some archery and shooting as part of a stag weekend. It was fantastic. Dave and Chris were a brilliant double act - entertaining and full of banter, but reassuring and encouraging when they needed to be. The gorge walking was at times quite tough mentally and physically, and very wet! However in addition to our group of (not particularly fit) men in their late thirties, there were some foreign tourists and an eleven year old girl. Thanks to the instructors, we all felt like a real team and helped encourage everyone through the morning. The instructions and games of the climb up were then put into use for the highlight - the jumping off 3 waterfalls at the end of the morning. However there was no pressure put on us to do the jumps if nerves got the better of us. The archery and shooting activities in the afternoon were, in comparison, relaxed, but still conducted in an atmosphere of fun and competition. Visited June 2014

This was my second time doing this in Coniston, but must say it was much better this time around with Dave and the '21 team! You have to be careful what company you go with for the gorge walking as some of them do not pay membership fees to use part of the gorge and that means that you miss a lot of the good jumps and pools. It happened to me the first time round, which is why I went again with Adventure 21. Visited June 2014

He has plenty of experience and whilst remaining professional, he had good banter with the group throughout the day. He knew exactly what we were looking for in an action packed afternoon and there were plenty of tasks and challenges for both the group and the stag to keep everyone entertained. It was cold, it was wet but to be fair what do you expect walking up a river in March. The equipment was spot on, 14 of the lads were over 6ft tall but there was enough large wet suits and jackets for everyone. He even took photos of the day as a memento for us. There were plenty of different activities, from underwater handstands to sliding down waterfalls – each was a great laugh in its own way. Each activity was explained to us and demonstrated before the group took part – this was great as you could see exactly what to do and that it was safe. Comments: “Great Paintballing Birthday Teenager Party” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 1 March 2014 Just got back from my son's 13 birthday party with 10 of his friends at the Feniscowles location, near to Blackburn with Adventure 21. They all had an amazing time, it was so well organised, so much fun, they all suffered a bit of pain but certainly a day to remember.

All the boys thoroughly enjoyed the experience and Dave made it such good fun, at the same time health and safety being paramount.

Heard so many scary stories about how expensive paint balling can be but certainly not with Adventure21, they're certainly not out to make money, just for every to have a good time.

They took photos throughout and a video and looked after the lads superbly, no worries on that score.

I would certainly recommend Adventure21 to anyone as we went on a recommendation.

Thanks again for a great day.

Knowing Dave before booking the activities I knew we would have a good day, good laughs and be in good hands. He didn't let us down and the rest of the lads really enjoyed it and gave me a lot of positive comments about the company and the way Dave runs things and interacts with his clients. I would definitely recommend booking an activity with Adventure 21, you will have a great day with a superb team....and you get Dave too. Lee C Visited January 2014

Comments: “Great day with Dave from Adventure 21” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 8 December 2013 Just want to thank Adventure 21 for a great day with a special big pat on the back to Dave our instructor. We were a party of 13 in Cumbria for a stag do and all thoroughly enjoyed the day pushing physical boundaries for some of us. We opted for raft building and gorge scrambling, both were a good laugh, def do the gorge scrambling! Dave's wit added into the mix was a nice addition, he put everyone at ease from the start and would say he made the day for us, he clearly enjoys what he does. Would definitely recommend this to everyone and I am sure we will be back to try the gorge scrambling in the summer, I would say the icy cold water definitely added to the enjoyment, I have not laughed so much for a long time. Thanks again to Dave our instructor, the lads and especially Dave the stag.....all the best for the future mate!! Visited December 2013

Comments: “Father & Son Day” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 3 December 2013 I contacted Dave Firth at the very last minute and asked if he could run a course for my son and I that covered knot tying and bush craft. Without any hesitation he took this on and personally instructed on it. The map directions were easy to follow, location was outstanding and we couldn't have asked for better weather. The course itself was very well prepared and took us through the importance of environmental awareness, tools, fire making (flint and twig style), hammock and bivi assembly, water, waste and camp locations. Being able to correctly collect water from a stream, boil it on your self made fire and taste the fruits of your labor through a hot brew and boil in the bag rations made them taste twice as nice. The introduction to axes, saws, knives & spoons took us away from the days of Rambo and into the reality of bushcraft as something that can be enjoyed by all...and it wouldn't have been the same had we not been able to chop wood and play 'responsibly' with sharp instruments! Daves enthusiasm is infectious and had my son riveted! Funny and down to earth he made the whole day turn into a memorable family moment. I would have no hesitation in recommending this company and will be going again for an extended version of the bush-craft course, only next time with rabbits. A BIG Thank You! Visited November 2013

Adv 21 provide overalls, guns, paintballs, and full visors. We had good footwear, gloves and hats (all needed). Dave gave a very clear safety talk and kept a constant watch over us to make sure we were all following the rules without being too obtrusive. We played 3 games over different terrain and with different objectives which suited the sharpshooters and scattergun enthusiasts alike. Despite being terrified of being shot I soon realised that it didn't hurt as much as I expected it to and made a rash charge for glory. I would definitely recommend Paintball with Adventure 21. Comments: “Awesome family day out on Coniston” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 29 July 2013 via mobile This was a family outing on Lake Coniston canoeing and kayaking. Firstly the weather on the drive up was typically northern and not a mountain top could be seen. Our group leader was Paul (the older one from Wigan....your words Paul, not mine) and what a great guy. Very easy to communicate with and brilliant with the younger ones, especially Zack and Cora. His help and encouragement in very challenging conditions from the off, gave the whole group loads of confidence. Strong winds and monsoon like rain could've dampened spirits but Paul made sure we all turned the negative to a massive positive. Was hard going but the picnic and marsh mellow roasting gave all time reflect of what had been achieved. Then the fun began and with the water being similar to the Med ( it was really warm) everyone ended up submerged on numerous occassions. Then we rated up and as a group got taken back down the lake by the wind. A mess around on one man kayaks was great for both young and old. All in all a really enjoyable day with a fantastic guide/tutor. We will be back there's no doubt about that. Fancy gorge scrambling next I think. If you're thinking of booking just do it. We were lucky enough to have two brilliant instructors who had us all laughing within seconds. We had success with 2 out of 3 rafts but the one that didn't quite make the cut was extremely entertaining..albeit a little feisty! A couple of cuts and bruises ensued but that's what you get when you go 'adventure' training..all 19 of us had an amazing time and all want to do more..especially if we get Dave & Harvey again. The whole process was easy to book, prompt replies from the company, lots of advice about what to bring, wetsuit sizes and how to find them. I had to change my numbers a couple of times and they couldn't have been more accommodating. We'll be keeping an eye out for offers on their Facebook page because we can't wait to do more! As a a SCUBA diver, rock climber and mountaineering kinda gal getting an activity to suit her and her slightly tamer friends was going to be hard. I looked at several activity day companies and adventure 21 offered by far the greatest range and best looking value for money. The wedding was at the end of April and the hen do was planned for the middle of March- plenty of time for the snow to melt and the weather to warm up. How wrong could I be! A day of raft building, canoeing, and gorge walking in 13 degrees and snow melting of the Old Man and into the ghyll! The day was fantastic, Dave or instructor was friendly, knowledgeable and really trust wrought, making even the scaredy cats feel safe. I cannot recommend them highly enough, everything was organised really well and we all had a great day. Visited March 2013

I'm scared of water, hate being cold and look AWFUL in a helmet! I was dreading going ghyll scrambling and if I wasn't an actual bridesmaid for the 'hen' I think I'd have bailed! HOWEVER, I am SO glad I went along and I had the best time ever on a hen do! Our guide man Harvey was a great guy who encouraged us to challenge ourselves without putting pressure on those who felt uncomfortable doing certain things! I went away feeling so proud of myself for sticking my head under a waterfall and jumping into a plunge pool, something I thought I'd never do before last weekend. Comments: “Brilliantly organised and chilled out” 5 of 5 starsReviewed 29 April 2013 via mobile After booking a camping weekend with 'the Private Camping Company' locally on Coniston water we decided we needed something to look forward to while we were there. After looking around 'Paintballing' came to mind...after all it was a stag do!
If there aren't any lamp posts and duct tape available then why not give the big guy a few bruises! After numerous emails explaining everything with 'Adventure21' they were incredibly accommodating after our numbers changed so many times. It certainly made my life easier organising it because it was like looking after a bunch of monkeys...anyway back to my point. We arrived on the day on time and we had Dave the organiser waiting for us. He immediately made me realise we had done well booking with them as you sometimes go to paintball sites and it's run by some jumped bunch that really are insistent on ruining your fun. Not Dave if anything he actively encouraged it. So in a nut shell if you want easy organisation, fairly cheap Paintballing this is the company you should use. I believe there is more to offer than just painting each other though so check it out! Visited April 2013

I was thinking of doing another activity as an NHS group, and my idea would be to canoe somewhere, pitch up for the night (a few laughs, fire and lots of beer) and then canoe back the following day. Would this be something you could accommodate? If so what would the cost be and what equipment would be supplied. Like I say, at this stage it's just an idea, and would need to get potential numbers. Many thanks for today, really much appreciated

We were aqua sailing and gorge scrambling with Harvey and it was honestly such an awesome day. Harvey is a top guy and an asset to your company. Happily for us, he was also an asset to our stag group as we spent Saturday night getting drunk with a hen party we picked up along the way - let's just say I'm pretty sure they were more interested in him than us! One quick question, Harvey had a camera with him on Saturday and said he'd put the pictures he was taking up on your Facebook page for us to see at some point. I've looked on your website but the link is missing and I can't find you guys on Facebook itself. Can you send me a link at all? Thanks again for an awesome weekend. Andy

It brought back many a memory and made us all laugh out load as we recalled some of the incidents. I want to thank you for all your support and encouragement that enabled the activities to go so well.

It gave us an insight into each other that we were lacking and allowed us to stretch each other in different ways. I was particularly impressed with the way you were able to coax Heshmat into becoming ‘a have a go hero’ and also how you helped Jehangir deal with his fear of heights.

I am tempted to say that my personal limits were not reached but would worry that you would crank it up too much. Having said that I am looking forward to the next time our paths cross. Kind Regards Shakil

Comments: Dave, Apologies for the delay; but work and other issues...Firstly, as touched on: thank you so much for being flexible and for orgainising a great day... I think I might be guilty of enjoying it more than Miles/Rees...It was certainly what I wanted for Miles and to "expose" him to new things; sadly, I have since learned that his first "cold-water-shock" sat under the waterfall, did make him panic a little... We should have made him experience the "shock" again when we jumped off a smaller "rock" and were submerged, to let him get use to the feeling, as he might have attempted more later; but he had a great time... Funny how even though still a "shock" we do take that "rush" from the cold water for granted. Miles loved climbing up the waterfalls, especially on a rope. I have to say, what a great group/team we joined and they made us very welcome... I appreciate your "offer" to come-up with a "Day" and looking at the calendar, I think we may venture back to the Lakes either the first or second week in August: I am sure you will be very busy, and would expect to make a "contribution" towards this - and to get the day right! If this might work for you, I will try to find some other people to join us on our trip to the Lakes and perhaps they will come with us on an Adveture21 day...On that note: I love the fact that "Safety" is top of the list and once you have "Assessed-the-risk" - you have fun within the boundaries. I wondered how you were positioned around "School Trips" as I have a number of friends who manage PE Depts, etc and I would love to recommend you to them... Do you have "cover"/certification etc? Thanks again and speak soon! John & Miles

Comments: Dave, Just to thank your organisation and Jon for last Saturday. All 6 of us had a brilliant day, The sun shone, the feet got wet , the canoe`s went round in circles a few times till we got ourselves shipshape, the food cooked by the side of lake tasted the best ever and I guess 6 guys got a taste of the outdoor bushcraft for the first time. Jon was very patient with us novices and we still have all our fingers after the axe cutting instruction. And to top it all, to finish with a pint in 'The Sun' made it a complete experience. Can throughly recommend the day as a special gift to some very undeserving blokes. Thanks again. Jim Wright

Comments: Hello Dave, what can I say ,the day was fantastic George and myself had a really good day, we have both learnt a lot about basic fishing ,casting and bait and types off floats and methods of fishing, George did not stop talking about the day and loved every minute, we did catch a jack pike around 6/7lb which was great. As for Duck, well he is very helpful and very patient and a really nice chap and he was easy to chat and get along with, so there was never a quite moment with nothing to say. I think he will become a very important member of the team. If it were possible George would like to send Duck a picture of them both but unsure if you have an address for Duck. Anyway thanks for a great day fishing, it was great. Steve Poole

Comments: Hi

I've just come back from a stag weekend in Coniston where Dave and Paul led a group of us gorge scrambling and canyoning (i was lovingly referred to as Gok Kwan, oddly, not for the first time!) - I just wanted to drop you a line to say a massive thank you for an absolutely brilliant time! I think when we all got back to the carpark in Coniston, we were shivering more than any of us have for months and wanted to get as warm as possible as quickly as possible so we neglected to say thanks and goodbye, but in case you were concerned we may not have had a good time, we all loved it and were recounting tales throughout the curry on Saturday evening. The suggestion that the stag be pushed into an underground cave was ingenious banter! It was great fun, exhilerating, rewarding and more harcore than most of us had expected, and Dave, Paul and Sam all did a fantastic job of making sure we enjoyed ourselves.

I'll be sure to keep Adventure 21 in mind for future works & social events.

Thanks again

Chris Gawn

Comments: Hi Dave, I'd just like to say a big thanks for the activities on Saturday. The consensus was that everyone really enjoyed the weekend and the activities in particular. You certainly completed the brief of making sure we were all knackered by the end of the day; most of the guys still felt like they had water flowing over their legs when they got into bed at ..... some time or other in the morning. We were really pleased to be able to do the gorge scrambling despite the weather, a little risk makes these things all the more enjoyable and I returned 10 people relatively unscathed back to their homes on Sunday; so no awkward conversations about why Timmy is currently being fished out of a river somewhere! I'd love to come back some time as would the other guys but we'll probably save it for the summer when we all have a bit more time; I'd like to point out I am in no way wimping out of going swimming in snow melt again.... All the best and I hope you get some good weather, Regards, Mark

Comments: The students all gave extremely positive feedback. They especially loved the abseiling and shooting. Their only complaint was the weather which is obviously out of your control. We found that the instructors were all encouraging, friendly and patient. A lot of our learners have very low level English but they all coped well with the instructors, which shows what wonderfull instructors you have. Thankyou very much on behalf of all the students and staff from ESOL.

Company: Glasgo Boys Brigade
Comments: Dave

Just a short note to say many thanks from all at this year's 212 Camp for another fantastic "Adventure 21" experience.

The boys (and staff, inc. me) had a great time. The gorge at Rydall was as good as you suggested last year and the rock pool jumping was a enjoyable finish to the day. Myself and fellow officers particularly enjoyed the "higher" jumps, which made the boys a little envious and wishing they were 18! Something for them to look forward to when they become officers. Please pass on our thanks to your guys.

For Summer 2010 we are heading further south (Northamptonshire) so wont have the chance to catch up next year, though I expect that we will be back in Lancashire/Lake District in future years!

Many thanks again.

Regards

Gregor.

Comments: Hi Dave & Kety, Just letting you both know what an excellent day we all had on Thurs 24th May with Dave. Dave was fantastic he made the day exciting, fun, and challenging. Pushing us all just the right amount to do things i think we all wouldn't have imagined we'd be able to do. I personally was proud of myself for doing the rock climbing up waterfalls (even though Dave had to hold on to me most of the time due to weak arms and short legs!! Hope i wasn't too heavy!), and also jumping off the waterfall at the end. Garry was also proud of himself for overcoming his fear of water during the whole day but especially at the end. Thanks Dave for being excellent in this situation. Ginny really enjoyed herself, and as Dave probably gathered both me and Ginny are quite competitive, you blokes could have let us win the canoeing!! Looking forward to seeing the photos, imagining all sorts especially ones where we climbed up waterfall!! Tracy, Garry, and Ginny

Having said that the Brothers Firth and Mark, were sterling instructors, even if we did use a mini blow torch to light the fire! When's the next one...that's what I want to know, it's well worth the 8hr drive to take part in an exhilirating weekend! Thanks for everything. Miranda (note the spelling Bob.
