Low level walking

Risk involved - walking on uneven ground

Hazards arising from risk - tripping, slipping and falling

Effects of hazard - cuts, bruises, sprains and in severe case broken bones

Risk management - suitable footwear to be worn throughout the walk and qualified experienced leader to be on hand.

Moorland walking

Risk involved - walking on uneven rough and exposed terrain

Hazards arising from risk - tripping, falling, becoming disorientated and possibility of exposure to adverse weather.

Effects of hazard - sprains and in severe cases broken bones. Losing way and possible hypothermia

Risk management - suitable footwear to be worn along with adequate clothing for adverse conditions. Qualified experienced walking leader for grade of walk.

High level walk

Risk involved - walking on mountainous, exposed terrain

Hazards arising from risk - tripping, falling becoming disorientated and high possibility of exposure to adverse weather.

Effects of hazard - cuts, bruises, broken bones. Losing way and possible hypothermia leading to death in severe cases.

Risk management - suitable equipment/clothing to be carried/worn. Qualified
walking leader for grade of walk.
