RISK ASSESSMENT - culvert scrambling

Specific areas

Various water catchment / drainage areas.

Short culverts

Risk involved - crouching or walking on slippery stone or brick in a confined space. Walking through water.

Hazards arising from risk - tripping, slipping, falling and banging head. In severe cases drowning.

Effects of hazard - cuts, bruises, sprains, backache and in severe case broken bones.

Risk management - suitable footwear, clothing and helmet to be worn throughout the session and an experienced leader to be on hand to brief and lead the group. Regular in session breaks. On site water assessment and weather report gained.

Long culverts

Risk involved - crouching or walking on slippery stone or brick in a dark confined space. Walking through water.

Hazards arising from risk - tripping, slipping, falling, and banging head, becoming disorientated. In severe drowning.

Effects of hazard - cuts, bruises, sprains, backache and in severe cases broken bones and possibility of clients panicking

Risk management - suitable footwear, clothing and helmet to be worn throughout the session and an experienced leader to be on hand to brief and lead the group. Regular in session breaks. On site water assessment and weather report gained.
